Hansae to build apparel factory in Haiti
Clothes manufacturer Hansae will build a factory in Haiti, a Caribbean nation, to expand its exports to the United States.
The Seoul-based company signed an agreement with the state-run Sonapi Industrial Park there on Tuesday, under which the firm will build a plant equipped to employ 5,000 people. Detailed information, including the plant's capacity, construction budget and the date by which the plant will be built, was not disclosed. Hansae is one of the world's largest apparel makers with nearly 60,000 employees in 11 countries. Its clients include Nike, Gap, H&M, Uniqlo and Abercrombie & Fitch. "We will be able to expand exports to the U.S. because the U.S. doesn't impose tariffs on products manufactured in Haiti," a Hansae official said. "This project will help bolster the company's competitiveness in many ways." |
